DEARBORN- A survey
reported by 7 Action News, is painting an ugly picture of life inside the
Dearborn Police Department.
The survey was mailed out to 180
officers, lieutenants and sergeants who work for Dearborn police. Of the 180,
124 responded to the 78-page document.
109 members of the department said
morale was under a three. Under what you would change, many directed their
anger at the chief, calling for his job and other top brass.
Mayor Jack O’Reilly is defending the chief,
who has been at the head of the department since 2007. He said citizen
complaints, use of force and officer involved accidents have dropped
dramatically.
O’Reilly dismissed the findings of
the survey.
“This is not the way to solve
anything,” O’Reilly said. “It was done deliberately for political motive, and
not because they want to improve the situation.”
But under what is driving morale,
some officer answered mismanagement of resources, disconnect between officers
and management, lack of training and no emphasis of police work.
