CANTON- A doctor at Canton Urgent Care is facing 22 fraud charges for allegedly billing Medicaid and Blue Cross Blue Shield for services he didn’t provide.
On Tuesday, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced the charges against Dr. Bassel Altantawi, 45, of Farmington Hills.
Altantawi is facing nine counts of Medicaid fraud, 12 counts of health care fraud, and one count of continuing criminal enterprise.
Altantawi operates at Canton Urgent Care, located at 43033 Ford Rd. in Canton.
Canton Township Police contacted Schuette’s Health Care Fraud Division after receiving a complaint that Altantawi was allegedly billing for services not rendered.
Altantawi was arrested and arraigned before Judge Richard Ball and released on $25,000 personal bond.
The state is looking for more patients who may have fallen vicim to the doctor. They are encouraged to call the Health Care Fraud Division hotline at 1-800-24-ABUSE.
