DEARBORN – The United States Postal
Service (USPS) has unveiled plans to roll out Eid stamps to recognize the holy
month of Ramadan.
The USPS will include the two most
important festivals – or Eids-in the Islamic calendar: Eid al-Fitr and Eid
al-Adha, at the First-Day-of-Issue ceremony for the new Eid Stamp.
The USPS plans to hold an event at
the Islamic Center of America (ICA) on Friday, June 10 at noon to announce the
details of the stamp.
Those in attendance at the event will
include USPS leaders, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of
Michigan Barbra McQuade, 19th District Court Judge Sam Salamey, Dr.
Albert Harp, a retired Educator and Trustee of the ICA, and Zena Elayan, a
student from the Muslim American Youth Academy.
The stamps will be part of the USPS’
Holiday Celebrations series, with the Eid stamp being issued as a Forever
Stamp. It will feature a design that evokes centuries of tradition. The
gold-colored calligraphy on the Forever stamp was created by world-renowned
calligrapher Mohamed Zakaria of Arlington, VA.
