DETROIT — Eric Sabree became the first African American Muslim to be elected Wayne County treasurer after winning the Democratic primaries for the seat on Tuesday. He will be unopposed in the general election in November.
Sabree defeated challenger Beverly Kindle-Walker by more than 10,000 votes. He carried Dearborn, where he won 57 percent of the votes, performing especially well in east end precincts.
Sabree was appointed to the position in April.
In other county races, Sheriff Benny Napoleon and Register of Deeds Bernard J. Youngblood easily won their bids for reelection.
