DETROIT — After winning only six percent of the votes in his bid for reelection in 2014, the political career of then- Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano seemed to have come to an end.
But Ficano appears to be making a comeback to public service after he placed among the top eight vote getters in the race for Wayne County Circuit Court judge on Tuesday. Four candidates will be elected in November.
A federal investigation into the county’s affairs led to corruption convictions against several of Ficano’s aides. However, he never faced any charges. He was cleared by the U.S. Attorney’s office when the investigation concluded last year.
Ficano placed seventh among the 21 candidates for judge.
Thomas John Hathaway came in first, followed by Wanda Evans, Melissa Anne Cox, Brian Morrow, Kelly Ann Ramsey, Matthew Evans, Ficano and Regina Thomas.
In Dearborn, Ficano received 2325 votes, putting him in third place. Hathaway won the most votes — 3056.
