DEARBORN — Donald Trump is not the only celebrity-turned-politician earning GOP votes. In Dearborn, Republican voters, who favored Trump in March, chose WWE wrestler, Rhyno (Terrance Gerin), in the state rep primaries on Tuesday.
Rhyno, 40, will face off against Democrat Abdullah Hammoud in November. Despite the wrestler’s physical strength, it will likely a slam down for Hammoud because the 15th District is a safe Democratic seat.
It was notable that Gerin was absent from several candidate forums organized around the city. Yet, he managed to gain 1,033 votes, 54 more than Paul Sophiea, who earned 979. Richard Johnson came in third with 705 votes.
Rhyno, who was inexplicably endorsed by the Detroit News, has been wrestling since the 1990’s. He is currently competing in the SmackDown brand of WWE.
Gerin has no plans to hang up his trunks, even if he wins in the general election. “I’m 40; I can still wrestle full time, and I can still do this,” he told WWE.com in March.
