IRELAND – A “child terrorist” Halloween costume has been withdrawn from sale after numerous customers complained it was offensive.
The outfits were being sold for £15 at a Halloween pop-up shop in the Diamond Shopping Centre in Coleraine, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
They included a shirt, vest, pants and headpiece and the boy pictured on the packaging wore a fake beard.
The Daily Mail reported that one staff member said: “I know that people might find them a bit sectarian but I don’t see what the problem is really.”
Coleraine DUP Councillor Trevor Clarke also condemned the costume, which he described as “completely inappropriate.”
The latest report by the Immigrant Council states that: “Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism are established realities in Ireland.”
Ireland is home to an estimated 65,000 Muslim men, women and children.
The outrage comes just a few days after Amazon was forced to withdraw a “sexy” Saudi-style burka outfit after it was labelled “racist” online.
