LANSING — On Wednesday, Governor Snyder stated that Michigan’s unemployment rate is still 4.6, which is below the national rate of 5 percent, after the announcement that an extra 11,000 residents were employed in September.
“More Michiganders are joining the labor force again to look for jobs, demonstrating the strength of our state’s remarkable comeback,” Snyder said. “Residents are now more confident they can find something as they begin looking for new careers. The 463,000 private-sector jobs created in Michigan prove that our efforts to reinvent the state are paying off, but there is more to do.”
Snyder added that there are 100,000 jobs available to quicken an economic comeback.
“Nearly 100,000 jobs are available right now on www.mitalent.org,” he said. “By creating more high-skilled talent for in-demand jobs, we can fill those jobs, accelerate our economic comeback and ensure a brighter future for every Michigander.”
Ari Adler, spokesman for Snyder, said people’s skills need to match the jobs in demand.
“What we’re trying to figure out is how do we connect with those jobs, making sure that they know that they’re available?” Adler said. “But also making that they have the skills they need to take some of these jobs that are in demand.”
