LONDON – Singer Janet Jackson was this week spotted in public for the first time since announcing her pregnancy – wearing a full Islamic dress.
The R&B icon and actress is believed to have become a Muslim after marrying Qatari billionaire Wissam Al Manna, 41, in 2012. Jackson has never confirmed her conversion to the religion.
Jackson was spotted in her Burqa while out shopping with Al Manna. They were spotted browsing for children’s clothes at an upmarket boutique before stopping for lunch at a health food restaurant.
The pair strolled hand in hand as Janet – who will become a mom for the first time later this year at the age of 50 – stroked her growing bump.
Shortly before her pregnancy, Jackson had embarked on a comeback tour that had to be cut short.
Prior to that Jackson had spent years living a private life–leaving behind hollywood and moving to Qatar.
Jackson appears to be the latest member of her family to have Islamic ties. Her late brother and Icon Michael Jackson was long speculated to have converted to Islam in the last years of his life. The oldest brother of the family, Jermaine, is also a devout member of the Nation of Islam.
