WINDSOR, Calif. (AP) — A Spanish-language school in Sonoma
County has been vandalized with graffiti criticizing immigrants and referencing
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that Cali Calmecac Language Academy Principal
Jeanne Acuna says a custodian found the graffiti on Monday morning. The
messages covered buildings, walls, doors and garbage can lids and had messages
such as “build the wall higher,” and Trump’s name.
The school, in the community of Windsor, is a dual immersion
program which teaches in both Spanish and English. Acuna says about 75 percent
of the students are Latino.
Windsor police are investigating the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police department.
The Council On
Islamic American Relations (CAIR), often condemning Muslim related hate
rhetoric, issued a statement about the incident.
“We condemn
this hate vandalism and the type of bigoted political rhetoric that inevitably
leads to such acts,” said CAIR San Francisco Bay Area Executive Director Zahra
Billoo.
