CALIFORNIA — A California man has been charged
with making terrorist threats to the Islamic Center of Southern California. But
what’s even more disturbing is what police discovered at his home.
The Los Angeles Police Department said Mark Lucian Feigin, 40, was arrested last week on the charge, which is designated as a hate crime.
Feigin has since been released on $75,000 bail. It’s
unclear if he has an attorney.
Police said Feigin first called the Islamic center Sept.
19 and left a hate-filled voicemail. The next day, they say, he called and
threatened to kill people at the center.
Police found at least nine guns and 250 pounds of
ammunition in his home.
The center said it has obtained a restraining order against
Feigin.
Cmdr. Horace Frank, of the LAPD’s Counter Terrorism and
Special Operations Bureau said the Feigin “crossed the line” into illegal
activity when he allegedly threatened the Islamic Center staffer.
“We recognize everyone has the right to free speech, but
with that right comes enormous responsibility,” Frank
told reporters. “When someone starts talking about, `I’ll kill you,’ it becomes a
concern to us.”
Feigin is due in court on Nov. 10.
