DEARBORN — For its fourth year of classroom book donations, the Dearborn Federation of Teachers donated a free book to every student in a classroom at Miller Elementary, Bryant Middle and Edsel Ford High School.
This contribution is part of its ongoing effort to hand out “a free book for every student in Dearborn.” Students stopped by the DFT booth at the Dearborn Homecoming for the chance to win a free book for every student in their class.
After that, the organizers drew one student’s name from a Dearborn Public Schools elementary, middle and high school. The winners received two books each.
Bryant Smith in Mrs. Bridgeman’s third grade at Miller Elementary, Calder Skazalski in Ms. Bailey’s sixth grade language arts class at Bryant Middle School and Miranda Manszewski in Mr. Pletzke’s ninth grade language arts class at Edsel Ford High School won books for their classmates.
“This is my favorite day of the year,” DFT Community Outreach Chair John Bayerl said. “It’s great to see the excitement these books bring to the students and their teachers. Hopefully, these books help our students become lifelong readers and lifelong learners.”
Up till now, the DFT has donated more than 6000 books. Also, many district teachers have used FirstBook.org to provide their students with books. For more information and to make a donation, contact Chris Sipperley at (313) 584-5311 or csipperley@dft681.org
