LANSING — On Tuesday, Gov. Snyder voiced his desire to try and build a relationship with President-elect Donald Trump.
Although Snyder, who has only met Trump once, disagreed with and has spoken out against some of the comments Trump has made in the past regarding immigration, minorities, women and Michigan’s manufacturing industry, he feels it is time to bridge the gap.
Snyder also did not endorse Trump or any other candidate for president.
“I look forward to building a relationship” because “I want to have good relationships at the local, state and federal levels, because we serve the same citizens,” Snyder told the Free Press, adding, “Shouldn’t we try to find ways to work together to give them the best outcomes possible?”
Snyder also told the Free Press that he has reached out to Trump, “trying to congratulate him on his victory and looking for ways we can work
together.”
However, Anna Heaton, a spokeswoman for Snyder, declined to comment whether Snyder called Trump or if his efforts to reach the president-elect have been successful.
