DEARBORN HEIGHTS- On Monday, family identified the 3-year-old girl, who died Friday morning when a cafeteria table fell from the gymnasium wall and struck her at a Dearborn Heights head start, as Lilliana Jade Kerr.
The Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency, which runs the Head Start program at the school, expressed condolences to Kerr’s family in a statement.
“Our staff responded immediately and provided CPR and first aid until EMS arrived,” the agency said. “We learned that despite all efforts the child passed away at the hospital. … We have been working with law enforcement who are continuing their investigation. They have told us that staff took the appropriate actions and this again was a tragic accident.”
The gymnasium at St. Albert the Great Parish was full of small children and teachers when the table struck the 3-year-old girl.
The family’s attorney, Greg Rohl, told FOX2 that he received “numerous” phone calls that the incident is not a first.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Rohl said. “And these conclusions may be somewhat premature, it’s obviously a situation where there was a dangerous condition that perhaps was not realized until too late.”
