DETROIT— According to DTE and Consumers Energy, high winds in Metro Detroit have reached more than 60 mph’ causing 600,000 customers to lose power.
DTE Spokeswoman Stephanie Beres told The Detroit News that more than 400,000 DTE Energy customers lost power by Wednesday afternoon, while
Consumers Energy Spokeswoman Deb Dodd said 194,000 Consumers Energy customers are without power.
“It’s a major storm and it’s going to be a multi-day storm as far as restoration,” Dodd said.
Beres said DTE’s online outage map also went down this afternoon, possibly because of the many people trying to access the site.
DTE teams are working 16-hour shifts to bring back power, but the company is concerned for their safety in the dangerous weather condition.
Beres said the situation is “fluid” and that it’s unknown when power will be restored.
National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Tilley said the high wind warning is in effect until 7 p.m.
