DETROIT — Nabih Ayad, a prominent Arab American civil rights lawyer and founder of the Arab American Civil Rights League (ACRL), will file a $50 million federal lawsuit at the District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on Thursday, April 6, against ICE and Detroit police officers, who fatally shot an unarmed 20-year-old Terrance Kellom in his father’s home on April 25, 2015.
Ayad’s office said in a press release the complaint alleges the officers, who were carrying out an arrest warrant, falsified reports that Kellom threatened them with a hammer.
The shooting had been ruled a homicide.
A press conference will take place on April 6 at the Penobscot Building in Detroit at 2:30 p.m.
We will provide updates accordingly.
