DEARBORN HEIGHTS —The area between Dearborn Heights and Taylor will be redeveloped. Ford Motor Company is moving into the former Masco Corp. and the Super Kmart buildings on Van Born Road in Taylor, spurring on redevelopment of the whole area.
“It’s a tale of two cities,” Dearborn Heights Mayor Dan Paletko said. “We’re looking to develop the Van Born corridor with our planning firm. It’s going to be the next hot spot in the county.”
A study will be conducted to determine how best to move forward, the cost of which is $112,000 and will be split between the two cities.
“We anticipate this will serve as a real boost for both communities,” Paletko said. “We are confident this expansion will serve as the seed for a real economic and social growth on both sides of Van Born Road. During discussions with Wade Trim, however, I have stressed it is critical to have input from businesses residential owners and elected officials in order to make this corridor plan successful. By working with our neighbors, the city of Taylor, we can use the addition of Ford Motor Company to the Van Born corridor as a stimulus to make this an attractive and economically vibrant area. This is truly a win-win arrangement for all involved.”
The three areas the study will focus on are, “The definition of issues and opportunities for multimodal transportation, the development of a menu of streetscape recommendations, and the development of a conceptual vision of the improved street environment.”
