INKSTER – People with up to two misdemeanor convictions or one felony conviction can apply to have the convictions expunged from their records and receive access to important resources at an expungement fair at the American International Academy School’s Inkster Campus, 27100 Avondale. The fair is sponsored by the Inkster Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
This is the third time the chapter has hosted an event to help ex-offenders thrive.
“We are sponsoring this event again this year because having a conviction on one’s record can fundamentally undermine a person’s efforts to have a productive life,” said Tiffany Taylor-Tait, president of the Inkster Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. “We believe that people who have convictions for breaking the law but have paid their debt to society and are on the right track deserve a second chance at success.”
Interested parties should bring a copy of their court conviction and a $10 fee to pay for an Internet Criminal History Internet Access Tool criminal background check.
Traffic offenses cannot be expunged.
The event will also offer people with convictions important information about employment, housing, healthcare, adult education and voter education.
Co-sponsors for the event include the Western Wayne Branch of the NAACP; Lakeshore Legal Aid; American International Academy; Operation Refuge and Recovery Education, Advocacy & Leadership Michigan.
