SOUTHGATE — A COVID-19 drive-through testing site will open in the Sam’s Club parking lot at 15700 North Line Road here.
The site is supported by Walmart, Quest Diagnostics and local authorities, according to a report from the News-Herald.
Testing will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for those who are exhibiting symptoms of the disease, which is associated with the coronavirus. Healthcare providers and first responders are also welcome to get tested regardless of whether or not they are experiencing symptoms.
Test results are expected within an average of two days. The site is the first of its kind in Southgate.
“The key to beating COVID-19 is to make testing available to everyone who needs it,” said Wayne County Executive Warren Evans. “Wayne County has been hit hard with cases and providing barrier-free testing opportunities all across the county will help in saving lives. I am thankful for the partnership with Walmart and the city of Southgate in continuing our efforts to combat this virus.”
To get tested, you must first make an appointment through Quest Diagnostic’s MyQuest online portal and app, www.MyQuestCOVIDTest.com. The site will be staffed by volunteers, including Walmart healthcare workers and Quest employees.
“To assist with the nationwide effort to increase the availability of secure COVID-19 testing sites, the city of Southgate is pleased to join in this vital partnership,” said Mayor Joseph Kuspa. “Localizing our testing capacity will also allow our medical and public safety personnel to be tested more efficiently. We all have the goal of saving lives and more testing will greatly assist with that important effort.”
Tests will be carried out via nasal swab, which will allow those being tested to swab their own nose onsite while in their vehicles, observed by a volunteer to ensure the sample is taken correctly.
The tests will be undertaken outside and will not be administered in Walmart or Sam’s Club.
