ROCHESTER — Oakland University has announced that students living on campus this fall will be required to be fully vaccinated upon their return.

Ora Hirsch Pescovitz, the university’s president, decided to require students to be vaccinated prior to moving into any of the six residence halls on Aug. 27.

“It’s only mandatory for the students in our residence halls,” Pescovitz said. “So, let me make it clear what we are doing. We are strongly encouraging everyone — faculty, staff and students — to get vaccinations as quickly as possible. I treat our students and even our faculty and our staff as my own family, and that’s why I feel so committed to taking measures like this.”

The university is offering vaccines for students this week and next week.

Students who do not want to get the vaccine have the option to commute, but there will not be an option to live in the residence halls or any on-campus apartments.
