DEARBORN HEIGHTS — On Sunday, March 31, Who is Hussain — Michigan (WIH) will partner with healthcare professionals across Wayne County to host a completely free medical camp at the Islamic House of Wisdom from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Who is Hussain is a global movement founded in 2012 and it currently leads more than 60 sub-organizations worldwide. The Muslim community group organizes charitable events for the common good including Feed a Family campaign, blood drives with more than 4,400 blood donations globally and community engagement.
In response to the unmet medical needs in some southeast Michigan communities, a variety of services will be provided to those who are in need, including the underinsured and uninsured. This will be the first medical camp WIH — Michigan will be doing.
The medical camp will cover holistic health needs and will be conducted on a walk-in basis; there is no pre-registration necessary. People are welcome with no insurance or identification required.
Providing many services, the free medical camp will include full checkup services provided by doctors and nurses, pain management exercises by physical therapists, mental health assessments conducted by therapists and more.
Doctors and healthcare professionals of different specialties will be volunteering during this coming weekend. Four general practitioners, two physical therapists, nurses and medical assistants, along with a team of mental health professionals, including a psychiatrist, will do health screenings.
Mental health professionals will be volunteering from different organizations, including the ACCESS Victims of Crime Act Program (VOCA) and CorePsych in Dearborn.
VOCA provides services and assistance such as psychiatric help; basic need services such as assisting with food, clothing and transportation; therapy and crisis intervention. CorePsych is an integrative mental health clinic offering services in psychiatry; cognitive, vocational and IQ testing; therapy and substance abuse support services.
The camp will also offer dental hygiene kits, informational pamphlets and refreshments.
