DEARBORN – Beginning on May 9, elementary school children in Dearborn are participating in clean up parades around their schools, and other annual and environmentally-friendly events.
Elementary school children in Dearborn continue to reinforce the idea of a beautiful Dearborn, and this will be the 67th year of children participating in environmentally friendly activities.
With a focus on keeping Dearborn clean and beautiful, the parade intends to motivate residents to keep their lawns cut, pick up litter and paint their houses. The message of the parades has evolved through the years— children now include sustainability messages in each theme and activity, requesting that residents help keep the environment clean.
The parades are sponsored by the City Beautiful Commission and supported by the city of Dearborn, the Dearborn Public Schools and parochial and charter schools. They will continue through May 23.
The remaining 2019 parades are:
1:30 p.m. Monday, May 13. Haigh Elementary, 601 N. Silvery Ln.
1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15. Geer Park Elementary, 14767 Prospect.
1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16. Snow Elementary, 2000 Culver.
9:45 a.m. Monday, May 20. Howard Elementary, 1611 N. York
1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22. William Ford Elementary, 14749 Alber.
The City Beautiful Commission also inspires schools to engage in environmentally friendly educational programs for students as an alternative to hosting a parade.
Henry Ford Elementary will do so at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, with an assembly. Mayor Jack O’Reilly, Jr. and Superintendent Dr. Glenn Maleyko will speak during the parade.
