STERLING HEIGHTS — The Arab American & Chaldean Council announced the launch of a free community English as a Second Language and culture class on Wednesday.
The free class will take place on Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon at the Schoenherr Towers Senior Center in Sterling Heights.
The first classes began last week and will continue in the weeks to come.
“ACC is proud to extend our ESL and cultural education offerings out into the Macomb community,” said Dr. Haifa Fakhouri, ACC president & CEO, in a press release on Wednesday.
“This is as unique opportunity where community members can work on their English, learn basic Arabic and gain greater understanding of Arabic culture. We look forward to seeing the positive outcomes of this community class.”
The class is an expansion of the ACC’s English as a second language and cultural education services, which are mainly offered out of its Macomb location in Sterling Heights.
The ACC’s cultural education and ESL services assisted about 1,600 local residents last year.
Additional services offered by the ACC in Macomb County include primary and behavioral health care, computer training and digital literacy, employment training, citizenship training and DHHS support.
