LANSING — On Wednesday, Gov. Whitmer appointed Dearborn Heights resident Zeinab Hussein, the director of diversity and inclusion for Wayne County, to the Health Endowment Fund Board.

The governor also appointed Emily McDonough of Williamston to the Data Collection Agency Governing Board.

Hussein is a national and state board member of Emgage, a board member of the Arab American Cancer Awareness Organization and a member of the Woodward Avenue Action Association.

She holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science and history from the University of Michigan and a master’s in counseling from Spring Arbor University.

Hussein was appointed to represent an individual recommended by the House minority leader, for a term commencing November 13 and expiring October 1, 2023.

She will succeed Alexis Wiley, whose term expired October 1.

The Michigan Health Endowment Fund Board was created as a result of the Nonprofit Health Care Corporation Reform Act. The Fund’s purpose is to benefit health and wellness through funding of programs for minor children and seniors through the state with a significant focus on infant mortality, wellness and fitness programs, access to healthy food, technology enhancements, health-related transportation needs and foodborne illness prevention.

This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

“Right now I’m extremely excited,” Hussein said. “I think this is a great opportunity to help to serve in a different capacity. Service is something that is very important to me, and I’m just happy I’ve been given the opportunity by Governor Whitmer.”

McDonough is the administrator for the Funds Administration and Self-Insured Program Division in the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and a former assistant attorney general. She holds a bachelor of science in environmental biology and zoology from Michigan State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. McDonough is reappointed to represent the executive branch of state government for a term expiring December 31, 2020.

The Data Collection Agency Governing Board is responsible for the determination of workers’ compensation data requirements for establishing workers’ disability compensation insurance rates. One member of the board is appointed by the governor to represent the executive branch of state government.
