BINT JEBAIL — Dr. Ali Bazzi, mayor of this southern Lebanon village which has thousands of former residents living in Dearborn, died of cancer in a local hospital here on Saturday, October 20. He was 65 years old. Dr. Bazzi was a medical physician, having graduated from medical school in the former Soviet Union with a specialty in cardiology.
He had been elected to the city council of Bint Jebail in the spring of 2005. Council members elected him president of the municipality.
Dr. Bazzi had visited Dearborn soon after his election to appeal for help in rebuilding the village after a lengthy Israeli occupation.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, October 28 at 5 p.m. at the Islamic Institute of Knowledge on Schaefer Rd. in Dearborn.
