DEARBORN — In a new initiative to address the needs of youth and encourage them to be more involved in the public sector and community service, the office of Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano has launched a new program called: Meet your County Executive. The first session was held on March 27th, at Fordson High School. The county executive discussed the economy, the county’s duties and functions and his travels abroad to recruit new investment. He also talked about being a first-generation American and the lessons learned from those experiences. Seventy students attended the gathering. Ficano regularly visits schools, city offices and other public venues to discuss his administration’s goals and to share his upbeat messages about the region. Students offered views on the government and asked questions about the county executive’s rise to his current job.
The goals of the program are to introduce the county executive to area youth; encourage them to get more involved in the political and social lives of their communities; highlight the problems the community is facing and try to suggest potential solutions; increase their knowledge about the different departments and services provided throughout Wayne County; create a bridge between these students and the CEO’s office; and send a message to the students that their ideas and thoughts are very important, and that they can make a difference.
