LAS VEGAS — Amir Sadollah continued his incredible and unexpected run with a win over C.B. Dollaway on Saturday, June 21 in Las Vegas in The Ultimate Fighter Finale for middleweights.
Sadollah, a half-Iranian, half-Irish kickboxer, was crowned “The Ultimate Fighter” for the popular cable show’s seventh season and will receive a six-figure contract with The Ultimate Fighting Championship for his efforts.
He defeated Dollaway in the show’s first-ever championship rematch with an arm bar submission, the same way he did in their first fight. Dollaway complained to referee Herb Dean that he didn’t tap (a move that results in forfeiture of the match), but replays clearly show that he did.
Sadollah talked about the ending in his post-fight interview.
“I remember just thinking I might have this (arm bar), so I better not let go, you know, if he picks me up and slams me, and then he picked me up and slammed me. I was like ‘Okay, I’ll just keep at this.’ I saw a flash of black clothes and Herb Dean stepped in but I wasn’t sure what had just happened.”
Sadollah was known for his sarcastic sense of humor on the show and his post-fight interview with various media members was no different.
“I guess I’m still not even sure that I won,” he said. “I might have gotten knocked out in the warm-up or something and you guys are just like ‘Oh yeah, yeah, you did great.'”
The former surgical technician will now get back to training for his new career as a full-time UFC fighter. His next opponent is yet-to-be-determined, but Sadollah won over a ton of fans with his humility and heart on the show and they are no doubt looking forward to his next fight.
