DEARBORN — People in Dearborn should be aware that enforcement begins in October of the City ordinance prohibiting parking on the street during Public Service Days in their neighborhoods.
Public Service Days mean cleaner neighborhoods in Dearborn. Twice a month, the City delivers concentrated services like street sweeping to neighborhoods during Public Service Days.
To ensure that work crews can provide the maximum level of services, City ordinance requires that all parked vehicles must be removed from the street from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on your neighborhood’s scheduled Public Service Days. Failure to comply can result in vehicle owners receiving a citation costing $35 to $70. Vehicles will also be subject to towing at the owner’s expense.
Full enforcement of parking rules is about to begin. Final warning notices will be issued to violators in September. The issuing of citations will begin the week of October 6.
Street signs are being installed in each neighborhood with the appropriate parking rules.
Public Service Days occur on your neighborhood’s regular trash pickup day during the first full week and third full week of every month. For example, if your regular trash pickup day is Wednesday, your Public Service Days are the Wednesdays of the first and third full weeks of each month. The first full week occurs with the first Monday of the month.

Full compliance with Public Service Day parking rules allow work crews to deliver the best possible level of service, such as curb to curb street sweeping in warm weather months, enhanced road maintenance and better tree trimming. It may not be possible to remove your parked vehicle(s) from the street because of a physical situation beyond your control. If so, you may be eligible for a parking exemption permit that would allow parking on the street (in front of your own property only) on Public Service Days.
To apply for consideration of a parking exemption, visit www.cityofdearborn.org or go to the front desk of Police Headquarters, 16099 Michigan Avenue.
Other provisions are being made for residents in areas with conditions that may prevent them from complying with the parking rules. Residents in those areas will be contacted soon.
