Dearborn — The Arab American Women’s Business Council (AAWBC) is looking to foster the growth and academic achievement of young Arab American women. Last month, the AAWBC established a scholarship fund to “be presented to younger, financially disadvantaged females of Arab descent.
“As successful Arab American women, we feel an obligation to encourage and empower the younger generation,” said Jumana Judeh, AAWBC founder. “There is no greater gift than the gift of education.”
To be eligible for consideration for the scholarship, applicants must have at least one parent of Arab descent and be an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college, or a high school senior planning on attending college. Interested applicants must submit an application, along with two letters of recommendation, college transcripts or acceptance letter, and a statement demonstrating financial need. In addition, the student must express an interest in Arab culture and include a one page essay summarizing her academic achievements, career goals and objectives.
The AAWBC was founded in October 2007 and strives to bring together professional Arab American women from all walks of life under the mission of building business and professional growth through networking, leadership, educational opportunities and cultural programming.
Interested applicants can obtain an application at www.aawbc.org or call 313.277.1986.
