DEARBORN — One week after avenging an earlier loss to rival Dearborn High School, the Fordson football team was unable to exact revenge against the team that beat them in last year’s playoffs as Detroit Cass Tech ended their season with a 32-18 home victory.
Fordson led 6-0 before Cass Tech roared back to a 19-6 lead going into halftime that they wouldn’t relinquish.
The Tractors finished 8-3 on the season after losing two of their first four games. Head coach Fouad Zaban spoke about the season.
“I think the kids have done a tremendous job this year,” he said. “They eventually made this a terrific year and one of the most enjoyable to me. Pulling together and making the playoffs and beating some good teams along the way is a tribute to their character and determination; we are proud of our program and it all goes back to the commitment our kids and coaches have.”
Going into next year, the Tractors lose six starters on offense and six on defense but Zaban but they should be more experienced at the start of the year than in 2010 which could allow for another playoff run and a shot at a league title.
Dearborn High reflects on successful season
Meanwhile, the Dearborn Pioneers bowed out the previous week after their 37-32 loss to Fordson. The loss ended a dream season for the Pioneers that included a 9-0 regular season and Western Wayne Blue Division title.
“We think it was a phenomenal season, we are very proud of our accomplishments this year,” said Dearborn Head Coach Dave Mifsud.
“Any time you have a good season like this, it just solidifies and reinforces the things you do to keep a positive attitude throughout the program.”
Next year, Dearborn will lose a similar number of starters as Fordson as five are expected to graduate from the offense and six from the defense, which could set up another crucial matchup between two of the state’s fiercest rivals again in 2011
