The Hamtramck branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) held elections on Nov. 20 for new officers. The winners of the six positions were announced by election committee members, Enid Cyrus, Bob Zwolak and Arif Huskic at the People’s Community Services in Hamtramck.
Juanita Sephers, lifetime member of the NAACP was elected president, Bill Meyer, executive director of OneHamtramck was elected vice president, Darla Swint was elected secretary and Bob Zwolak as assistant secretary, Kazi Miah was elected treasurer but declined the nomination and Tissua Franklin was elected as assistant treasurer.
Executive committee members were also elected and include, Kamal Rahman, Twyla Meyer, Mike Nelson, Gabriel Alaziz, Arif Huskic, Enid Cyrus and Akm Rahman. Swint and Zwolak vowed to bring membership records up to date and keep members more regularly informed on events. Open positions will be filled on the next meeting at noon on Dec. 11 at the People’s Community Center. The meeting includes a potluck and all members are invited.
