House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to hold a vote on the DREAM Act in a few weeks. The DREAM Act is a bipartisan initiative that would allow about two-million undocumented students to earn citizenships by attending college or serving in the military. According to a report from UCLA’s North American Integration and Development Center the DREAM Act has the potential to help boost the economy and increase tax revenues. On Nov. 23 a telephone conference was held to brief the press on the DREAM Act and contrast its economic benefits with Arizona-style immigration reform.
Speakers of the conference included Dayanna Rebolledo, DREAM Act-eligible student; Marshall Fitz, Center for American Progress, Co-Author, “Stop the Conference”; Prof. Raul Hinojosa, UCLA North American Integration and Development Center, Co-Author, “No DREAMers Left Behind”; Fay Beydoun, Executive Director, American-Arab Chamber of Commerce’ and Prof. Ruben Martinez, Director, MSU Julian Samora Research Center.
