SEATTLE — City buses in the city will display signs that read: “Israel war crimes. Your tax dollars at work.” The Seattle Midwest Awareness Campaign reportedly paid King County $1,734 to display the message on 12 buses. The message is expected to appear on buses starting Dec. 27, two years after the Israeli attacks on Gaza.
Beginning in late December several organizations stepped forward to boycott Israel war crimes. The Stirling Council of Scotland started on Dec. 15. Only two members on the council opposed the boycott. The council condemned Israel for its “aggression and disregard for international law.” Labor Councillors Colin Finlay and John Hendry say apartheid was not acceptable in South Africa and shouldn’t be acceptable in Palestine. Both instructed procurement officers to denounce contracts of Israeli goods. Finlay is a part of the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign and said several Scottish councils are showing aggression towards “Israel’s raciest policies.” The SPSC was founded in 2000 and has several branches in Scotland. In a statement Finlay and Hendry said the Israeli government had illegally occupied East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the blockade of Gaza.
The Marrickville council of Australia is also boycotting Israel. It began its boycott on Dec. 14. It became the first local council in the country to join the boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign. The BDS is an international campaign that focuses on ending trade, investment in companies and sporting teams that are affiliated with Israel. The United Nations and Australian Federal and State Governments have rejected supporting the BDS mission of coercing Israel to restore human rights and return occupied land to Palestinians.
