A car driven by 16-year-old Hyder Al-Abid crashed into an abandoned building on Tues., Feb. 1 after going about 75 mph in a 30 mph zone. |
Police said that the two cars were a green Honda, which crashed, and a black Chevy Impala, which sped away after the accident. They were reportedly speeding around 75 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone. Police are still looking for the Impala according to Logan, as of Thursday, Feb. 3.
The victims were identified by WJBK-TV in Detroit as 16-year-old Rachad Mohammed-Hussein, who was reportedly killed, 17-year-old Ahmed Shafal, who was critically hurt, and 16-year-old Hyder Al-Abid, the driver, who is in serious condition and under arrest. Another unidentified 20-year-old died and two other teens are also in critical condition.
Witnesses reportedly said that most of the people involved were teenagers from the neighborhood and that street races had been seen often in the area. Al-Abid reportedly told his mother that he had been chased and pushed off the road.
