DEARBORN — Henry Ford Community College student Batool Ali
Saad of Dearborn was selected as one of just 20 community college students
across the United States, and the only one from Michigan, to the 2011 All-USA
Community College Academic Team.
The prestigious honor was given to Saad, an HFCC Honors
Program student, after beating out more than 1,500 students from 800 community
colleges. Fellow nominee Neam Alazawi and Saad were recognized with other
Michigan nominees at the March 24 event in Lansing. The award is presented each
year by USA Today, Phi Theta Kappa
and the American Association of Community Colleges.
Saad is a Biology major with a 4.0 GPA who created HFCC’s student chapter of
Amnesty International. She is a refugee assistant for ACCESS, a member of the
Arab American Women’s Business Council and a volunteer for the Boys and Girls
Club of Southeastern Michigan and is also a columnist for the HFCC student
newspaper Mirror News among other activities.
Winners received $2,000 each and a full-page article in the
April 11 edition of USA Today. Follett Higher Education Group also presents
$15,000 in textbook scholarships to the colleges of student winner
