DEARBORN – The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of
Dearborn will host a 24-hour event on Saturday, April 30 to raise funds for
programs and research offered by the society.
The event was created by volunteers and will begin with
registration at 9:30 a.m. at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in
the city.
Dozens of tents will be set up outside the center for 24
hours of selling goods and services with the proceeds benefiting the society.
Music, games, activities, food and fun for all ages will also be part of the
day’s events.
It all kicks off at 10 a.m. as Dearborn Mayor John B.
O’Reilly, Jr. will join the opening speakers in honoring cancer survivors and
caregivers with a light brunch.
Other events include a basketball tournament from Hype Athletics from 12-5
p.m., Maple School’s Arabic Music Ensemble at 11 a.m.-12 p.m., a character lap
where participants dress up as their favorite super hero/video game/cartoon
character and run a lap, a Luminaria Ceremony (memory lap) for those who lost
their lives and also those who are fighting cancer at 10 p.m., and more. The
FIGHT BACK education and awareness-based ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. and
relay-style field events will take place from 11 p.m.-midnight with teams
competing to raise money.
