AUSTIN, TX – Texas Rep. Ron Paul announced last Friday that
he will run for the Republican nomination for president in 2012. Paul, who has
distinguished himself from more mainstream candidates by running in the past as
a Libertarian, speaking out against the Federal Reserve private banking system
of the U.S., and favoring a return to the gold standard in monetary policy
among other views, made the announcement on ABC’s “Good Morning
America” show from New Hampshire.
Paul, 75, made a strong run for the presidency in 2008 thanks to a
surprisingly robust Internet campaign but fell short. He is also in favor of abolishing the Internal Revenue
Service and has said he is a staunch anti-war candidate who wants to pull the
U.S. out of Iraq and Afghanistan.
