LANSING – A law requiring people 21 and older to wear helmets on motorcycles would be repealed under a law passed in the Michigan Senate on Tuesday, June 28.
The vote was 25-14; some had concerns that fatalities and closed-head injuries would rise after the law’s passing.
Those riding without a helmet would have to complete a safety course or have been licensed for at least two years and would also have to carry insurance covering up to $100,000 in medical costs.
Former governor Jennifer Granholm has vetoed similar laws twice citing health costs. The bill will now go to the House for consideration.
