LANSING — About 30,000 college students have been cut from the Michigan food assistance program since April according to various reports. The DHS estimates that savings will be about $75 million dollars as a result of the students not receiving aid. The DHS also says that some exceptions will be given out for “non-traditional” students who desperately need aid. More people are expected to be cut in October when the qualifications for food assistance become asset-based instead of income-based as well.
