LANSING — Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced the appointment of longtime Dearborn resident, attorney and 2008 19th District Judge candidate Candyce Abbatt to the Board of Trustees of Legacy DMC, formerly the Detroit Medical Center. 

A total of 18 other trustees of Legacy DMC will also serve an indefinite term at the request of Schuette. 

“Candyce Abbatt is a smart, experienced, and hard-working attorney with a strong commitment to charitable activities in southeast Michigan,” said Schuette. “She will be a strong voice for the community on the Legacy DMC board. I am confident her leadership will be an asset to the Detroit-area families who rely upon DMC hospitals for essential health care services.” 

Legacy DMC is a Michigan nonprofit charitable organization responsible for monitoring the actions of Vanguard Health Systems, a for-profit company that acquired all DMC hospitals in a $1.5 billion deal.

Abbatt has extensive experience as a nonprofit director and adviser, including serving for many years as a member of the Henry Ford Health System’s West Region Board. She was the first woman president of the Wayne State University (WSU) Law Alumni Board and remains active as a member of the WSU Law School’s Board of Visitors (Trustee), where she has served on its Executive and Strategic Planning Committees.
