DEARBORN — An FBI report released on Monday, Sept. 19 shows that Dearborn was one of two communities in Michigan with increases in violent crime from 2009 to 2010 among those in the top ten. 

Dearborn jumped from 339 incidents to 373 according to FBI statistics while Clinton Township jumped from 277 to 351. 

Overall, Flint had the highest violent crime rate in the nation last year among cities with 100,000 people or more. Other cities with rates among the worst in the nation include Detroit, Saginaw and Pontiac. 

In addition, eight of 10 communities with the most violent crimes from 2009 declined in that area in 2010 including Detroit, Pontiac and Warren. 

Overall, however, crime rates declined in metro Detroit as of 2010 according to FBI statistics including violent crime declining by 2.7 percent and property crime down by 5.6 percent. Michigan had the 12th-highest violent crime rate in the country. 

Nationwide, there were an estimated 1.2 million violent crimes reported in 2010 along with an estimated 9 million property crimes.
