DETROIT — The Occupy Detroit movement’s residency permit expired this week after a five-week run, finishing up without a single arrest.
Participants had stayed in Grand Circus Park in various tents while holding meetings at Central United Methodist Church and holding demonstrations at Bank of America and the Spirit of Detroit statue in protest of corporate greed, war and other social issues.
The movement now plans to take up residence at a building in downtown where it will continue to present its message through action.
Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee wrote on his Twitter account that he was thankful for the movement’s commitment to maintaining peace while also exercising free speech “in a manner we should all be proud of.”
