FARMINGTON HILLS – The Associated Food and Petroleum Dealers (AFPD) with the help of its sponsors distributed 5,100 turkeys to different charities and religious groups. In Michigan 4,600 turkeys were donated and in Ohio the number was less at 500.
Providing needy families with food for Thanksgiving is a part of the AFPD Annual Turkey Drive. This year marked the 31-year anniversary of the event. The AFPD also provided other food items for the holiday such as sour cream.
Derek Dickow of Steward Media who participated in the AFPD Turkey Drive said it’s his favorite event of the year. “It just makes you feel good,” he said. This number of turkeys distributed was a record high for the AFPD. Last year 3,400 were distributed. The organization’s goal is to keep the number growing annually.
There were countless volunteers who made the effort possible. According to Dickow, the event is the biggest turkey drive in Michigan. AFPD plans on helping more families in the future. To participate in the AFPD annual Turkey Drive contact Derek Dickow directly at 248.521.2900.
