DETROIT — Wayne State University announced that it may decide to raise admission standards with the goal of increasing graduation rates at the school.
About 33 percent of Wayne State students graduate within six years according to recent statistics released by the school.
Under proposed new standards, a Bridge Program would be implemented for students with grade-point averages between 2.5 and 2.7 and ACT scores between 16-18. The program would be eight weeks long and offered twice a year focusing on core subjects. Specialized counseling could also be added. Those who pass would continue the program with two semesters of specialized classes.
The new process would need to be approved by the university’s Board of Governors and a vote could take place in February 2012 with changes taking place in fall 2013 if passed.
