DEARBORN — Apricot candies made by the company Baraka and distributed through U.B.C. Food Distributors of Dearborn have been recalled because they have been found to contain undeclared sulfites as preservatives.
The Lebanon-imported candies were found to contain high sulfite levels in a routine product sampling by the state of New York. The sulfites were not listed on the label due to a temporary breakdown in production and packaging equipment. For now, production has been suspended until the problem can be corrected. So far, no adverse reactions have been reported but people who have sensitivities to sulfites could have serious, life-threatening reactions to the products if consumed.
The products come in a 14.08 oz. package with an expiration date of of 5/20/13 printed on the front panel. The UPC is 822514223719. Consumers can return the candies for a full refund to place of purchase.
