DEARBORN/DOHA— Businessman and former head of the Arab American Chamber of Commerce Nasser Beydoun, 47, has essentially been exonerated of all accusations in a civil case that had been filed against him in December of 2009 in Qatar according to court documents in Arabic received by The Arab American News. 

The court expert in Qatar has ruled in Beydoun’s favor and now the court must accept his recommendation, which they almost certainly will.

“This basically just shows that the whole lawsuit was frivolous,” Beydoun said.

Beydoun had returned to his family in October 2011 after he said he was “held economic hostage in the country” following a business agreement in 2007 with a restaurant chain that had financial difficulties. 

Previously, Beydoun had been charged with embezzlement by the chain, Wataniya Restaurants, but they were dismissed and his travel ban to the United States was lifted.

The civil charges he will most likely be exonerated of include mismanagement, raising his own salary, and signing contracts without authorization.

He responded with a lawsuit in U.S. federal court seeking damages from the chain both his reputation and finances, as well as pain and suffering caused to his family. He said others should be cautious in accepting work agreements in the region, while also saying that the court system has been fair but has taken a long time to make progress.
