The LAHC hosted the Youth Leaders Committee gala on Thursday, June 21 at Byblos Banquets, and honored the work and achievements of the Consul of Lebanon in Detroit, Bachir Tawk. Tawk has served Lebanese expatriates in Michigan and surrounding states with commitment, respect and integrity during his tenure in metro Detroit, which was his first post with the Foreign Service, the YLC said.  Tawk will be leaving in July to begin his new appointment of service in Tunisia. 

The event was attended by around 400 guests mainly youth and young professionals and featured musical entertainment by Metro Detroit’s own Ahmad Hatoum and DJ Fox, with remarks by YLC LAHC chairman, Hussein M Hachem, LAHC President Suehaila Amen and comedic entertainment by Master of Ceremonies Ali “Bulldog” Abdallah of the Ed and Moe Show and the Lebanese comedian superstar Ellie Ayou.  Prizes and cultural performances kept everyone smiling and enjoying the evening while a delicious meal was served. 

Hachem highlighted the achievements of the LAHC YLC members as they launched many initiatives in a short period of time making the group one of the most respected youth group in metro Detroit. When the Somalia Humanitarian crisis occurred, the group was the first among other organizations to quickly raise money and spread awareness. Hachem encouraged the Arab American Youth to take part in building a better future for Michigan and the nation while preserving the honor and pride of their ancestors. Hachem, along with LAHC Founder Ali Jawad, President Suehaila Amen, and Executive Director Wassim Mahfouz, presented three members of the LAHC YLC  with the “President Obama, Volunteer Service Award” including Amani Mahmoud, Raefe Bazzi, and Rachad Al Ameen. The award is presented by the office of the president for individuals who show distinguished commitment for their communities and nation through volunteering, and remarkable initiatives with their organizations.
