DEARBORN — This past Saturday the Medrar Foundation raised over $100,000 during its first fundraising iftar at the Islamic Center of America here before an audience of more than 400 people. The donations will go towards its next humanitarian mission in Ethiopia. The mission, Ethiopia Orphanage Oasis Project is expected to be completed by next year and will include an orphanage to house 400 children, school to teach orphans as well as locals, community medical clinic, large agriculture field for food sustainability and water wells. Additionally, Medrar will offer several comprehensive workshops that will train local residents on how to sustain and maintain the project.

Mr. Berry visits the region frequently and understands the needs of the people. He spent the first two weeks of this Ramadan season in Ethiopia mapping the project and preparing for its launch.

Anthony said Ethiopia’s history and culture has deep meaning to everyone, and is a place where Christians and Muslims have lived for centuries without conflict.
