“What first brought me to the Crestwood School District was the lawsuit that was presented by the counselor at the Crestwood School District, which pointed out to the inadequate services the district provides for ESL students. Coming from an immigrant background, I understand how important it is to service those children. I have seen that we weren’t servicing these children accurately and correctly based on state and federal law, and when I brought up this issue to the board, they told me they were in compliance. Later we learned that the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating and discussing this issue with the school board. There are so many other issues that need to be examined, such as accountability, transparency and lack of technology in classrooms,” stated Zeinab Hussein.
