DEARBORN — On Wednesday, Dec. 12, the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services and the United Auto Workers will pay a tribute to Nobel Peace Prize nominee, peace activist, physician and author Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish.
A Palestinian from Gaza, Dr. Abuelaish lost three daughters in 2009 when Israeli tanks shelled his home. He turned that tragedy into a tireless campaign for nonviolence and peace, establishing Daughters for Life Foundation, which supports the education and health of young women in the Middle East and the development of voices and leaders for peace.
As part of its mission to link the struggle for economic and social justice with the struggle for peace and freedom, UAW Region 1A will present Dr. Abuelaish with a check to support his Foundation.
ACCESS is co-hosting the event at the Arab American National Museum, starting at 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This event is open and free to the public, those who want to attend should RSVP at ygee@uaw.net or (313) 926-5361.
